Feinwerk Technologies GmbH is an expert in contract manufacturing, more precisely for large milled parts (up to 60 t) and turned parts (up to 5 t).
The photographs show one of the many machines from Feinwerk Technologies and are part of the company’s machine park list. The Doosan Puma 700xly II is a horizontal 4-axis CNC machining center with the largest work area in its class.
The light setup
Light plays a very important role in photography. Without the right lighting, it is difficult to take photos even with very good photo equipment.
In order to optimally illuminate the machine images for the customer, in the first step we set up an LED panel to the side of the machine in order to achieve a greater contrast and to bring out the contours of the machine. Since light always casts shadows, we illuminated the background with a second LED panel for a harmonious overall picture. A third light, our back light, served as an effect light or highlight on the right side of the picture. This gives the photo more depth and makes it look more interesting.
We use Aputure lights for our light setups.
Taking photos
We photographed the Doosan Puma with both closed and open aperture. The further the aperture is open, the more light falls on the sensor of the camera (the picture becomes brighter) and the more blurred the background becomes. With an open aperture, the photographer determines the focus point and thus directs the viewer’s gaze. The photo with the control unit illustrates this effect very well. The focus is on the employee’s hand. The areas on the left and right in the image are out of focus. The viewer’s gaze is directed specifically to the middle part of the picture.
The long shot shows the machine in full size at its location. The size ratio also come out well through the employee on the medium-long shot. The detailed images show the control unit and the machine from the inside with the component that was being processed at the time.
The image editing
For a modern and clean look we opted for a cooler color temperature and largely pulled out the yellow tones. The relatively high contrasts ensure a dynamic look.
